Members’ Celebratory Dinner
Thursday 26th March 2009
Endeavour Restaurant
Located in the Vancouver Building, College of West Anglia.
Our December 2008 Newsletter was the 50th Issue. We are happy to announce details of a 50th Newsletter Celebratory Dinner for our members in honour of the event, to be held at the Endeavour Restaurant, College of West Anglia, King’s Lynn, 6:15 PM for 6:30 PM on Thursday 26th March 2009 (9 PM finish). Our aim is to thank all members, whether you pay annually or monthly when you attend meetings. Maximum number of guests is 50. Let’s have a party! We deserve it. We are in our 13th year and many members have been involved since the beginning in 1996.
Stradsett Hall Open Garden Event
3rd, 4th & 5th July 2009
The Stradsett Hall Garden Show 2009 is a large event, from 3rd to 5th July at Stradsett Hall, Stradsett (map). We are part of the main organising committee. Ros Harre is arranging the Fine Art Exhibition and both local and headquarters staff are involved with the Big Bone Walk. We would be very pleased if as many of our members as possible could attend.
The tickets for the Gala evening on the Friday are £15.00. The evening presents an opportunity to look around the Art Exhibition, gardens and stands in comfort; and to buy, if you wish. Wine and canapés will be included and the band of the Parachute Regiment will be playing.
More information is available on the Stradsett Hall website. If you prefer to come on the Saturday or Sunday entry is £7.00, or £5.00 for parties of 20 or more and entry for children is free.
This should be a large fund-raiser for the local Group as we will be receiving a proportion of the profits. It is meaning a great deal of work and we do need your support.
Green Quay Art Exhibition
17th to 31st July 2009
Helena Anderson and Frank Gibson are arranging an Art Exhibition for us, from 17th to 31st July at The Green Quay, King's Lynn (map). Again the money raised is for local funds.
There will be a Preview evening on 17th July to which everyone is invited – free. This is your chance to view and possibly buy a painting whilst enjoying a glass of Pimms and nibbles.
These paintings will be miniatures, no more than £50.00 each, subject ‘Favourite Corners of King’s Lynn’ and should make good presents or help fill a little corner at home. Some will also be displayed at the Sandringham Flower Show, giving Their Royal Highnesses, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall a chance to see a selection. This event is in the Festival Brochure and will continue to the end of July.
Our monthly meetings
Cutting the cake

At our friendly and informal monthly meetings we discuss the latest osteoporosis news, as well as our plans for future events (such as the Peripheral DXA Scanning Days we organise locally). You’ll also be informed and, hopefully, entertained by the different speakers we invite to talk to us. Topics range from those closely linked to osteoporosis, in talks given by professionals in the field, to a whole variety of interesting, engaging and amusing subjects.
What, When, Where?
All meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of every month at the London Road Methodist Hall, County Court Road, King’s Lynn, and start at 7.30 PM, unless otherwise stated (map and directions). Everyone is welcome. Entry is free for members, and costs £1.50 for visitors (excluding our annual January Social event). See below for information about the speakers and topics at each of our meetings.
Getting to our monthly meetings
We provide a minibus service to some of the surrounding rural areas to coincide with our meetings. For more information, call Pat Reilly on 01485 572271.

More Fund-raising
Get Your Copy of Our Notepad — Just £2.00
Greetings from King’s Lynn
A handy gift in any season
Our notepad, for sale for £2.00 to raise funds. The cover illustration is from a painting by Helena Anderson, donated to the group by the artist.
Our notepad consists of 100 pages of good-quality white paper. The front cover shows a full-colour detail of a watercolour painting of Captain George Vancouver’s statue in front of the Customs House in King’s Lynn, by local artist and friend of the group, Helena Anderson.
Captain Vancouver is one of our town’s most famous sons. He explored & charted regions of the Northern Pacific coast of North America in the Eighteenth Century, parts of which now bear his name (most notably Vancouver Island, and the two cities of Vancouver, in British Columbia, Canada, and Washington, USA respectively). The Customs House in King’s Lynn, at which Vancouver was Deputy Collector of Customs for a time, has become a symbol of the town, resonant of its maritime heritage and widely regarded as one of its prettiest old buildings.
Our notepad makes a very useful gift for people holidaying in this area to take back home. It’s also handy to have around for those short letters we often need to write. What’s more — all proceeds go to helping people locally with osteoporosis (helping us pay for our free scanning days, for example). We are selling each notepad for £2.00 (plus £1.00 postage & packaging if required). We are also offering them for sale as a ‘Baker’s Dozen’ — 13 notepads for the price of 12 — £24.00.
Well, you’ll want to get hold of at least one! There are several ways you can contact us to let us know. We’ll get back to you promptly. Please make cheques payable to NOS, and contact the Secretary, Edith Finbow, in the first instance.
